Stunning Napkin Fold Gift Box

Hello everyone, it’s the start of another week and the tutorial I had scheduled has been pushed back until Thursday now after I saw a wonderful Napkin Fold box over on a Facebook group I like. The lady Jess made a wonderful version which everyone loved and all desperate to know how it was made. Jess had got her inspiration from Wenches Papir Verden here you will find a picture tutorial.

Here is my version.

The Napkin Fold origami technique is very common and used a lot in card making, just type in Napkin Fold into YouTube and you will find many tutorials.

I instantly wanted to have a go at this and from the picture, Jess showed me this was my take on it.

I made a 3 x 3 one, 4 x 4 and 6 x 6.

To make this box 4 x 4 size you will need…

1 piece of 8 x 8 plain card for the base.

Score at 2″ & 6″ on all 4 sides.

1 piece of 8.1/8 x 8.1/8 card for the lid.

Score at 1″, 2″, 6.1/8 & 7.1/8 on all 4 sides.

1 piece of 8 x 8 card or paper, patterned or not for the main Napkin fold, nothing too thick as it will be hard to fold. You need to follow my tutorial below to see how to fold this piece.

4 pieces of patterned 2.5 x 2.5 squares to decorate the Napkin Fold. Cut these on the diagonal to form a triangle this will give you 8 triangles.

8 pieces of patterned 1.5/8 x 1.5/8 squares to decorate the Napkin Fold. Again cut on the diagonal to form a triangle this will give you 16 triangles.

4 pieces of patterned 3.3/4 x 1.3/4 rectangles to decorate the sides of the box.

4 pieces of patterned 3.3/4 x 3/4″ strips to decorate the sides of the lid.

2 pieces of patterned 3.3/4 x 3.3/4 squares for the top of the lid and inside of the box.

Die cuts and embellishments to decorate the top of the box.

Check out my full tutorial below to see how I put it all together.

If you want to make a 3 x 3 one you will need…

1 piece of 6 x 6 card for the base, scoring at 1.1/2 and 4.1/2 on all 4 sides.

1 piece of 6 x 6 for the Napkin Fold, follow the same folding as in my tutorial.

1 piece of 6.1/8 x 6.1/8 for the lid, scoring at 3/4″, 1.1/2″, 4.5/8 & 5.3/8 on all 4 sides.

8 pieces of 1.1/8 x 1.1/8 squares cut on the diagonal.

4 pieces of 1.3/4 x 1.3/4 squares cut on the diagonal.

You will be able to work out your other mats from here.

To make a 6 x 6 box you will need…

1 piece of 12 x 12 card for the base, scoring at 3″ & 9″ on all 4 sides.

1 piece of 12 x 12 for the Napkin Fold, follow the same folding as in my tutorial.

1 piece 12 x 12 card for the lid, slightly different scoring here. You need to slightly pull the card away from the side of your scoreboard and score at 1.1/2, 3″, 9.1/8 & 10.5/8 on all 4 sides.

4 pieces of 3.3/4 x 3.3/4 squares cut on the diagonal.

8 pieces of 2.1/2 x 2.1/2 squares cut on the diagonal.

Again from here you will be able to work out all your other mats to decorate the box.
