Hello everyone, its the start of another week and I have these very cool looking Chinese Lanterns for you.

How to make an Easy Chinese Lantern

Living in China, there are many festivals and celebrations to be had, with the most popular being Chinese New Year. There are many decorations, wonderful food and gifts and just a nice buzz in the air.

I thought I would share some Chinese inspired paper crafts with you over the next couple of weeks, with the first being these beautiful lanterns.

Traditionally they are made using “Ang Pow” also known as “Little Red Packets” which are envelopes given to friends and family during special occasions. These are always red and filled with money.

I used CNY themed ones for the red lantern above and show a Birthday themed one above.

The ones I make in the tutorial below are using First Edition papers Storyteller.

To make the lanterns you will need…

4, 5 or 6 pieces of 3 x 6 card depending on what size lantern you want. you can also use 3 x 8 or 4 x 12 for even bigger lanterns.

A good stapler or staples. I’ve assembled them the way they do in China, however, you can stick them together with glue if you don’t want any staples showing.

Ribbon to hang them.

Embellishments to decorate.

The tassle’s I used I purchased here in China and they are available from Ali Express, however, I’ve found some similar ones here on Ebay.

Check out my full tutorial below to see how I put them together.

These are lots of fun to make and great for Birthdays, Christmas and Easter. Mine are hanging in a cluster from my craft room ceiling.
