MIXED UP CRAFT

A Good Strong Gift Box

Sometimes all you need is something simple.

Today’s project is this very strong reinforced gift box to hold a paperweight.

My trusty Kraft card was perfect for this, I like the raw finish it gives and being 280gsm plus being reinforced with good glue would mean it can manage the weight of a paperweight!

I was asked to make this by my dad for a Photography competition that he and others on his committee were organising. He helps run the PPCA (Port of Plymouth Canoeing Association)  If you can please take a minute to visit his FB page A View From A Kayak, as I know he would love that, he has a series of books he has written, so if you know anyone who Kayak’s or just enjoys the sea and the surrounding nature & coastline, then check out his page & books.

Ok so back to the box, I die cut some fun images, a Lighthouse, Sea Shell & a Seagull and used some rope to finish it all, trying to keep with that nautical raw style.

To make this gift box you will need.

2 pieces of 7.1/2 x 11.5/8 standard A4 length.

Score along the short side at 3.1/2 & 7″

Score along the long side with the 1/2 tab running along the bottom at 3″ then rotate it around until the 1/2 tab is at the top and score at 3.1/2

1 piece of 7.5/8 x 7.5/8

Score at 1″, 2″, 5.5/8 & 6.5/8 repeat this on the other side.

Some of the dies used are from an old copy of The Cardmaker’s Collection magazine called “Sea Breeze” by Ultimate Crafts.

I cannot find the magazine anymore but I’ve found similar dies for the Seashell on eBay,

eBay.

The Lighthouse & Seagul dies are from Emerald Crafts.

Rope to tie it together.

If you would like the Jellyfish paperweight we purchased ours from Love Frankie a cool shop in Totnes.

Check out my full tutorial below to see how I made it.

I hope you like simple natural style box from me today. Of course, you can use any card and decorate however you want, its a great reinforced box for those heavier gifts.
