Hi everyone, I’m really excited about today’s projects, I’m really pleased with how nice this idea has turned out.
Here is my Faux Wooden Handle, Hobo Style Gift Bags.
I love the handles on these and that with just a little distressing with ink you can transform the kraft card to resemble the look of wood.
Once again these fold flat making them perfect for making now and storing away for later.
To make these gift bags you will need…
2 pieces of 8.1/4 x 11″, A4 or 12″ pattern paper, you can have any hight above 8″. After thinking about it you can have any width you want as well, it will just change the overall look of the bag. The pattern paper used is the V&A collection by Trimcraft available from Hobbybase UK. My Kraft card is my ultimate favourite by Docrafts, Papermania and is available from Mountain Ash Crafts. This link is for the 100 pack which is great value for money.
Score along one of your sheets along the longest side at 3.1/2, this will be the front of your bag.
On your other sheet, along the longest side score at 3.1/2, if you want the bag to fold flat, score also at 5.1/4.
2 pieces of 4″ x 8.3/4 for the sides of your bag.
Score both pieces along the 4″ side at 1/4 & 3.3/4, then rotate and score at 3.1/2, again if you want this to fold flat you need to again score at 5.1/4, then rotate back and along the 4″ side score at 2″ just down to that 5.1/4 line previously scored.
2 pieces of 8.1/4 x 1.3/4 for your handles.
1 piece of 1.1/2 x 3″ for your clasp/closure.
4 pieces of 2.1/4 x 1/2″ for your tabs to connect the handle.

The brown gift bag was all made from Kraft card which I distressed with brown ink and a blending tool. This turned out much darker then I had planned and ended up looking much more masculine and reminded me of a leather workshop apron.
The stitched detail was achieved with a white watercolour pencil.
