MIXED UP CRAFT

Beautiful Christmas Lanterns

Oh, how I enjoyed making these!

Beautiful Christmas Lanterns.

Beautiful Christmas Lanterns

I’d had the idea to make these for a while but decided to wait till nearer to Christmas so I could decorate mine all Christmassy.

Beautiful Christmas Lanterns

These are pretty big, measuring 6 x 6 x 9 so I plan on having one either side of my patio doors or either side of my Christmas tree.

Beautiful Christmas Lanterns

These are functional lanterns and light up when using a battery candle inside.

I used a patterned vellum which really shows then the battery candle shines through.

There is plenty of space inside for a bigger battery candle if you wish.

To make these lanterns you will need…

4 pieces 6.1/2 x A4 length or 12″ of Kraft card, mine is 300gsm for the 4 sides of your lantern.

Score along the 6.1/2 side at 6″

Rotate your cardstock so the 1/2″ tab is running along the top of your scoreboard and score at 2″ & 4.1/2, then rotate your cardstock so the tab is now running along the bottom and the other long side is now at the top, score at 1″, by scoring this way you can use any length cardstock you like.

Then along the 6.1/2 side with the 1/2 tab on your left score at 1.1/2, 2″& 4″ all down to the first score line only.

3 pieces of 5.1/2 x 5.1/2 velum for each side.

1 piece of 10.1/8 x 10.1/8 black cardstock for your base.

Score at 1″ & 2″ then pop some cardstock into the left-hand side of your scoreboard and score at  8.1/8 & 9.1/8″. Then rotate your cardstock and repeat the same scoring. Revert to my tutorial below for more detail on these steps.

2 pieces of 1/2″ x 12″ black cardstock for your handle and to decorate the chimney part of the lantern.

Approximately a 3.3/4 diameter circle die.

Approximately a 4.5/8 x 4.5/8 square die.

Ribbon, bells and die cut foliage to decorate the front.

The die I used to create the green foliage was from the “Tropical” SU set.

The Kraft card I use is the Docraft Kraftstax I get the 100 sheet pack. It’s 9.99 in The Range but I can’t see it online.

Check out my full tutorial below.

These really do look great and are very strong.
