I have terrible handwriting and have always written in CAPITAL LETTERS! My teachers were always telling me off for this but its stuck with me ever since. My dad is a fantastic Calligraphy writer and it always fascinated me but with my poor writing, I’ve never tried it myself.
Over recent years Calligraphy writing, Brush writing & Hand Lettering have become very fashionable, I see it everywhere now especially in interior design. Because of its popularity and modern update I have been thinking more about trying to learn.
I was wondering around the Charity shops in Tamworth yesterday and in one of them, I came across this Calligraphy set for 2.99!
The nibs inside were a real mix and I don’t believe are the ones that come with the set originally but maybe I’m wrong.
I’ve looked them up and I believe I have:
William Mitchell nibs consisting of
General nibs
Witch nibs
Elbow Copperplate nib
Joseph Gillott Mapping nib
Round Hand Square nib
Italic nibs
So now to try them out…
As you can see I’m absolutely terrible, I guess it doesn’t help that I’m using the wrong paper, probably holding the pen wrong and I don’t know how to write in lower case!!!
However, this will not deter me and it actually made me even more determined to learn this beautiful art.
So watch this space and I will keep you updated on my progress.
Wish me luck.

Funny, but I am going to learn more calligraphy too! I was bought a set a few months ago, got it out yesterday, did a few words very badly then put it back again….
Its certainly a lot harder then it looks!
Calligraphy is such a giving art, though! You will love it!
