Unusual Octagon Shaped Gift Bags

Hi everyone today I have my last project for this year’s Mothers Day Series 2018

Octagon Shaped Gift Bags

These unusual looking gift bags are very spacious and strong and will be great to use for Easter filled with eggs!

Octagon Shaped Gift Bag

I made 3 sizes, one using 2 pieces of 12 x 12, one from 2 pieces of just under 8 x 8 and one from 2 pieces of 6 x 6 card.

All of my papers used are First Edition from Trimcraft.

Beyond the Shore paper pack

Wanderlust paper pack

Floral Fusion paper pack

To make these gift bags you will need…

For the largest size, you need 2 pieces of 12 x 12 strong paper or card.

Score along one side at 4″ & 8″ and another side at 4″ & 8″ you then need to put a pencil mark along one side at 6″ and then again on the opposite side to that.

Follow my tutorial below to see how you need to do some extra score lines and folding.

For the medium size gift bags, and if you have 8 x 8 papers you need 2 pieces of  7.1/2 x 7.1/2 so you need to cut them down slightly.

Score along one side at 2.1/2 & 5 and another side at 2.1/2 & 5 then again put a pencil mark along one side at 3.3/4 and then again on the opposite side to that.

For the smallest size, I made using 6 x 6 papers you need to score at 2″ & 4″ on one side and again the same on another and then put a pencil mark at 3″ on two opposite sides.

I show you many different variations and way to put the handles on during the tutorial.

Check out my full tutorial below.

I hope you like these and have enjoyed my Mothers Day Series this year, below I have a playlist of this year’s series and last years, so all 10 projects together and lots of inspiration.

  1. Another fantastic 3D project Sam, I am glad you have told us crafters that it can be made in three different sizes as not everyone want to make a really big bag (which is lovely), this may out phase them so the smaller ones may be better. I can see from your blog page that you have all the sizes of papers necessary for each bag and all the score lines necessary to each too. Thank you for sharing such a great project with us crafters Sam. :O)

  2. Hi Sam,

Thank you for sending me this email with the link to the latest in your blog posts – Unusual Octagon Shaped Gift Bags

I watched your You Tube video tutorial and loved it. I also read through your blog post and left a comment there as well as on You Tube. If you were to ask me which was my favourite I would have to say the middle sized bag as this would be the one I would love to receive myself. I would though construct the smallest one in order to get everything right in scoring, folding etc. before attempting the middle sized bag.

An update on my treatment, been for chemotherapy this morning and white blood cell count (1.29) needs to be 1.0 so woohoo! Red blood cell count (99) needs to be 90, woohoo! So the chemotherapy must be starting to get into the cancer cells and slow them down. Thank you for all the kind words, thoughts and prayers there have been for me and please I would appreciate if these would continue.

I have put more projects on my blog page for you to see.

    Until your next email
