Don’t be alarmed, these bugs aren’t real, although that spider still freaks me out!
I know Halloween is still a while away but I wanted to create this Display Top Gift Box to show off the bugs I cut from the First Edition ‘Nature’ USB by Trimcraft.
I also call this a Specimen Gift Box and the idea for it came from one I made a couple years ago.
You can find my tutorial for these fun boxes below. They are great for displaying a pretty scarf.
Back to today’s box! this one is made the same way as my Chocolate Bar Box I made a couple months ago. I’ve made it wider and wrapped a piece of acetate over the top, to give the box a glass display look to it.
Of course, you don’t need to put bugs in this, it would look very pretty full of flowers or butterflies.
By lifting the acetate up above the box slightly it creates a really unusual look.
I used the First Edition ‘Nature’ & ‘Sentiment’ Digital Die Cut USB, both available from Craft Stash here.
I used Ranger ‘Glossy Accents’ to cover the bugs and make them shine.
This is available from Craft Stash here.
To make this gift box you will need…
1 piece of 9″ x 11.1/2 black cardstock for the box.
Score along the 11.1/2 side at 1/2″, 5″, 6″ & 10.1/2
Score along the 9″ side at 1″, 7.1/2 & 8.1/2
1 piece of 4.1/4 x 6.1/4 white card to cover the top of the box.
1 piece of 7.1/4 x 6.1/2 acetate for the case. Mine is the strong Papermania acetate from Craft Stash here.
Score along the 7.1/4 side at 1.3/8 & 5.7/8
2 strips of 6.1/2 x 5/8″ coloured card for the long sides of the box.
Some twine or ribbon to decorate with a gift tag.
Check out my full tutorial below.
Lots of room inside for a large chocolate bar.
The gift tag finishes this box off perfectly.
