Hello all, I wanted to make a pretty home decor piece and seeing as I have so many embroidery hoops lying around, I thought I would use one and make this Auteum themed wreath.
I received the recent issue of Papercraft Essentials magazine and the free gift was this lovely leaf die and an embossing folder. I didn’t use the embossing folder but the leaf die was perfect!
You can purchase the magazine from Craftstash here they offer worldwide shipping.
I die cut around 16 leaves, some plain and some with the vain detail.
I distressed them using some brown ink and then covered them in a gold gilding wax to add some shine. I’m so pleased how they turned out and actually think they look quite real!
To make these you will need…
1 embroidery hoop, approximately 8.1/2 in diameter.
White mesh/tulle to cover the hoop. I picked up mine from a charity shop, but you can find it in the big craft shops or online. I’ve found many sellers on Amazon here.
Some thick ribbon, I used some burlap and thick linen I picked up from home bargains.
Ribbon for the bow and to hang the hoop.
Check out my full tutorial below to see how I made it.
I added some gold buttons and distress the die-cut letters the same way I distress the leaves.
I also distressed the wooden hoop just to bring everything together.
I adore this, and it’s now hanging in the hallway.
I hope you enjoyed my DIY home decor project today and give it a go.
Happy crafting
Sam
